Sg. Balim Estate, situated 72 kilometers from Miri at KM 3, Kubur Road, Off Sepupok Niah is a peat estate spreads over 2,776 hectares certified under the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) Standards as well as International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC). Established in 2001, Sg. Balim Estate is one of estates owned by SOP Plantations (Niah) Sdn. Bhd., a subsidiary of Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad. |
This estate is developed with reference to the detailed drainability study to ensure establishment of sustainable and holistic peat management. Various peat water management techniques have been put in place includes deployment of check gate, flap gate and tidal gate to regulate the peat water level. Sg. Balim estate has also mechanized part of it’s feasible area through
the deployment of Errepi slimmer to evacuate FFB from the field. In year 2022, the estate
started it’s replanting programme meassuring approximately 600 hectares,which is known
to be one of the pioneer peat replanting in Sarawak.
Saremas 1 Estate is a subsidiary company of Wilmar Plantations Sdn Bhd (formerly known as PPB Oil Palm Berhad), with a total planting area of 4,578 hectares of prime- age palms located at KM112 Miri – Bintulu Road under Sawai District. This estate consists of 100% mineral soil with dominant Semerak and Bedup soil series and is fully certified under RSPO, ISCC & MSPO. |
It underwent its first replanting cycle in the year 2010, which was completed in 2018. The replanting technique was based on the Wilmar Agricultural Manual, implementing the Best Agricultural and Management practices in compliance with Wilmar’s NDPE policy. Saremas 1 adopted mechanization of field operations since 2021 in the areas of infield FFB evacuation, infield EFB, and fertilizer application to minimize the impact of labor shortages and improve productivity.
As of December 2023, Saremas 1 had mechanized approximately 51% of the total planting (2,320.19 ha) under infield FFB evacuation at 12-15 mt/day/machine, 1,782 hectares of infield EFB application at 150 mt/day (70 mt/ha), and 1,359 hectares of mechanized fertilizer application at 40 ha/day/team. The mechanization of infield FFB evacuation is expected to be fully implemented within the next three years.

- Piasau Nature Reserve. This is one of the few nature reserves situated in urban areas, where one can understand the living habits of the Oriental Pied Hornbill, through educational vignettes and a short walkabout through the reserve.
- Miri Crocodile Farm cum Mini Zoo, located in the Kuala Baram Land District. It is the first and also the largest Crocodile Farm in the northern region of Sarawak, housing more than 1000 crocodiles of different breeds, and many rare animals found in the tropical rainforests
- Lunch at local restaurant (at own expenses)
- Emart, a local native market where various handicraft, fruits and vegetables are on sale
- Malaysia’s 1st Oil Well – the Grand Old Lady located at Canada Hill, and Photo Stop at Petroleum Museum Miri
- Handicraft Heritage Centre – all sorts of unique and handmade art craft, handicrafts, T-Shirts, bead work and many more
- Tamu Khas – the native market, where varieties of stalls are selling various tropical fruits and vegetables
- Coco Cabana – the 25 meters high seahorse light house which is an amazing place for sunset view adjoining the Central Park and the new Miri City Hall shaped like an Oil Barrel, signifying Miri as a prime producer of Oil and Gas

- Niah Museum before proceed to a 3km walk to Iban Longhouse for lunch
- Local ethnic lunch to be serve in the longhouse
- Proceed with an 800m walk to the Trader’s Cave, Great Cave and Moon Cave
- Walk back to the Park Headquarters on the same plank walk
- Transfer back to Hotel.
